Born in London in 1949, Nick Mace was determined from childhood to pursue a career in fine art, and has indeed painted professionally since his late teens.
In spite of an urban upbringing, NIck Mace had an inherent love of the countryside and in 1970, he and his Wife, moved to their present home in West Dorset.There he quickly became interested in field sports, and is now deeply involved in shooting, game management, and practical conservation. The amount of time spent in the filed pursuing these activities is self-evident in the accurate detail of the finished works; not only in the overall landscapes but in the small incidents depicted therein, whether it is a distant bird spinning dead in the air,a runner retrieved, or a gun and loadr in action with a whisp of gunsmoke drifting on the morning breeze. Each detail is not only a cameo in itself but combines to capture the very essence of a day spent in the filed or at the covert side.
From his Bridport Studio have come a series of oil paintings whch have established Nick Mace as one of the country's leading landscape and sporting artists. He now enjoys worldwide reputation an travels extensively to fulfil commissions, from duck shooting in the Carolinas to boar shooting on the continent, salmon fishing in Scotland and leading sporting estates throughout the country.
As well as exhibiting in major London galleries, he has had numerous one-manshows in this country, Europe and the USA here his work is eagerly sought by sportsmen and collecors alike.
